Mark Wilson plays his career's best round at the 2012 Humana
Mark Wilson plays his career’s best round in the 2012 Humana Challenge to surge to the first position - Golf News

The United States veteran, Mark Wilson, fired the best round of his career, 10-under par 62, to reach atop the leaderboard after the second round of the 2012 Humana Challenge, at La Quinta, California.

He started the second round in an impressive style, with three consecutive birdies on the opening holes.

While making a spectacular eagle on the 11th, he already managed to record six birdies in total and went eight-under par in the round.

At that time, he thought for a while

about the tournament record of 13-under par 59 that was set by Harrison Frazar. As Frazar was also playing in the event, he went to him and talked about it in detail.

"I don't know why the conversation went there ... but I thought about it," Wilson said.

After his career’s best performance, he is now sharing the top position with Ben Crane and David Toms, with an overall score of 16-under par 128.

Crane shot a nine-under 63 and Toms managed to card a seven-under par 65 in the second round.

The event, formerly known as Bob Hope Classic, has a history of low score finishes, as it features two of the easiest  - Continue reading......

Tiger Woods Tees off on cricket

ABU DAHBI - Former world number one Tiger Woods on Tuesday admitted his increasing interest in cricket which coincides with the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship here, saying it's similiar to baseball which he loves. The 36-year-old is here to feature in the January 26-29 Abu Dhabi Golf championship, which goes side by side to the second Test between Pakistan and England at Abu Dhabi Stadium from Wednesday. "Baseball is huge in Japan and the US, but outside of that cricket is huge. So as I have travelled and I have played all around the world, I have started to watch more and more," said Woods in his pre-tournament press conference. - Continue

Tiger Woods no longer the most expensive player

Tiger Woods is no longer the most expensive player – Golf News

Former world’s number one, Tiger Woods, who once used to demand high price to appear in any of the events around the world, is now getting ready to play the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship without a big price.

He will now play as an ordinary participant in the event slated to be held from January 26–29.

He will compete against some of the big names, such as the current world's No. 1 Luke Donald, US Open champ Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer from Germany.

Woods once used to earn £60 million a year and was among the most expensive sportsmen in the world.

However, he suffered an injury in an accident in 2009, followed by a controversy that led his marriage life to an end. The suspicious news floated in  - Continue reading......

Colin Montgomerie insists Tiger Woods will win two majors in 2012

Colin Montgomerie insists Tiger Woods will win two major titles in 2012

Despite of all the criticism and mudslinging Tiger Woods has faced in the past two years and continues to face to this day, Colin Montgomerie has always been an ardent supporter of the former world number one and considers him one of the best stories of modern day sport.

The Englishman threw his support behind the 36-year-old Stanford graduate and went to the extent of predicting that Woods will go on to win no fewer than two major titles this year.

"A Tiger victory at the Masters would be the best story for golf," Montgomerie said. "He [Woods] hasn't played that much in the last two years and so can move back up more quickly

because of how the rankings work,"

Woods’ played brilliantly at the closing of last season on the PGA Tour, pulling in several strong finishes before marching on to card a win at the Chevron World Challenge to break his two-years-long winless streak. Winner of 14 major titles, Woods is the only player in the history of the sport who holds any chance of breaking - Continue reading....

Golf Genius Kim is gone, but NK golf tournament remains

SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Yonhap) -- Even the fairytale rise to implausible golfing kingship depicted in the Hollywood blockbuster "Happy Gilmore" doesn't come close to the storybook achievements of Kim Jong-il, the late North Korean leader who died last month. North Korean legend has it that, on his maiden round, the country's No. 1 man blew away even the earthly brilliance of golf greats Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as he carded, wait for it, 11 holes-in-one.

Now, the scene of "Dear Leader" Kim's
astonishing feat has been opened up to an entirely different field of mere mortals. At the DPRK (short for Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name) Amateur Golf Open, green-lighted to be played over three days for the first time this year, any golfer with the - Continue reading....

A similar path diverges for Bradley, Steele

We have come to meet and greet people.

There wasn't much that separated Keegan Bradley and Brendan Steele last year.

They were PGA Tour rookies and close friends. They won their first tournament

in Texas about two months apart, Steele in San Antonio and Bradley in Dallas. They played in one of Phil Mickelson's money games at The Players Championship. Both made their major championship debut at the PGA Championship, and both were in the final two groups. Steele was tied for the lead. Bradley was one shot behind.

That's where it all changed.

Steele stumbled out of the gate and shot a 77. Bradley took triple bogey on the 15th hole, but rallied to force a playoff  - Continue reading......

Mickelson, Watson set for Torrey Pines spotlight

SAN DIEGO, Jan 24 (Reuters) - With Tiger Woods a notable absentee from this week’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, American left-handers Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson can expect to capture much of the spotlight. Mickelson, a three-times winner of the PGA Tour event, lives in nearby Rancho Santa Fe and always attracts hordes of fans while Watson, one of the biggest hitters in the game, will command extra attention as defending champion.

Watson held off a late charge by Mickelson to claim last year’s title by one shot and used that victory as a springboard for the most successful campaign of his career. - Continue reading......
