Archdale's Mauldin Takes NCJGF
Duke Blue Devil Junior |
|
|
DURHAM, NC -
December 15, 2011 - The North Carolina Junior Golf Foundation completed the
fall half of the 2011-2012 season at the Duke University Golf Course on December
10-11. The golf course was in excellent condition with icy slick greens. Cool
temperatures and brisk winds combined to present an extra challenge to an
already difficult golf course.
Despite
facing the toughest playing conditions of the year, Gregory Maudlin (2013) of
Archdale, NC relied on patience and consistency to post a pair of 78’s to win
the overall high school title over David Song (2016) of Greensboro, NC an 8th
grader who was playing up, by one stroke. Song won the Freshman/Sophomore
Division by
two
strokes over Kaleb Lester (2014) of Chapel Hill.
Patrick Stephenson, 2016, from Four Oaks, NC posted
a 69 on day one and entered Sunday with an 8 stroke
lead. Despite a rough start on Sunday that saw his
lead slip to one stroke at the turn, he made his way
around the back nine in even par to win by 5 strokes
over Ryan Gerard who posted a pair of 77’s, for his
third win on the NC Junior Tour.
This event
marked the half way point for this new, volunteer
non-profit junior golf Foundation that started this
past September. The Foundation recently approved
member number 556 and welcomes players from across
the country.

Salisbury
High School sends three of its best to play
college golf |
|
|
SALISBURY, NC - November 14, 2011 -
Salisbury High School - I cannot find anything to say what I am about to say to
not be true. A record of sort was established at Salisbury High School today. There were three National Letters of
Intent signed for golf. In my eleven years of covering junior and high school
golf this has never been done. Appalachian State, Davidson and Catawba are about
to become home to three of North Carolina's best junior golfers.
Lily Yatawara signed with Appalachian
State. Alex Nianouris signed with Davidson and Alex Lee signed with Catawba.
These three remarkable golfers are concluding what has been almost a lifetime of
playing golf together.
Their relationship began in middle
school as they all three played on the same middle school golf team and it

L-R
Lily Yatawara, Alex Lee, Alex Nianouris and parents
turned out
that they were very productive there for they won
their middle school championship.
With a
"Championship Taste" still in their mouths they
entered high school and helped their respective
teams earn berths in the state championships all
four years and won both the men's and women's state
championship this year, 2011. -

North
Carolina's Over All 2011 Girls Champion
Victoria Allred |
PINEHURST,
NC – November 1, 2011 – Pinehurst #6 – NC Girls 4A
Championship – Three years ago at Cedar Rock CC
in Lenoir, NC I met a young freshman name Hannah
Craver from Reagan High school. She had just tied
for the 2010 4A Regional medalist honors with
Allison Emery from Ardrey Kell. After the sudden
death playoff everyone was gathered around the score
board and I noticed this young blonde girl that
seemed to be a real good friend of Hannah Craver.
Craver was a freshman at the time and the young
blonde girl was in the eighth grade.
Then later
that same year at the annual TYGA awards dinner
Craver and the young blonde seemed inseparable. I
soon found out that the young blonde was the
daughter of the girl’s golf coach at Reagan high
school. The young girl was Victoria Allred.
From 2009
onward Victoria Allred’s name began to show up near
the top of many junior events held around the state.
Allred’s freshman year at Reagan, 2010 was not
overly productive and in her regional tournament she
finished with a 79 and advanced to the state
playoffs with her team.
In the
first round of 2010 4A state
championship
Allred shot a blazing 74 putting her in third place
behind Kristi Ingram and Katie Kirk who were tied at
73 for the lead but on day two the 5’0” one hundred
and five pounds of pure heart carded an 83 dropping
her back to a finish of T-12.
From the close
of the 2010 season, through the spring and into the
summer Allred’s name was seen in the top five in
every event she played. By the start of the 2011
high school season Allred had won two of the events
that she had entered. Then as the first reports of
the Central Piedmont Conference 2011 season came in
the most conspicuous fact was that Allred’s name did
not appear in the scoring. Ok, something -

PINEHURST – November 1, 2011 - Sophomore
Victoria Allred of Pfafftown Ronald Reagan shot the
day's best round on Tuesday and went on to capture
the individual title in the North Carolina High
School Athletic Association state 4-A women’s golf
championships at Pinehurst number six.
Allred was one
shot off the pace after Monday's opening 18 holes
with a 75, but her 74 in the final round gave her a
149 total, good for a three-shot victory
over Charlotte Ardrey Kell's Allyson Markiewicz at
152. Raleigh Athens Drive's Sarah Bae, one of the
first day co- leaders, had a 79 in the final round
for a 153 total, good for third. Watauga's Savannah
Wood placed fourth, five shots off the pace. The course
is set at par 71 and a 5,735-yard layout for the
two-day, 36-hole championship.
Athens Drive won its third team title in the last
four years, putting together a 240 on the second day
to finish at 481, 10 shots ahead of Reagan. Ardrey
Kell, the first day team leader by one shot, was
third at 493 and Pinecrest was fourth at 515.
The
best three scores of a team counted toward the
team totals, and a total of 14 teams and 78
golfers competed in the event, the ninth year
that the sport has been classified. It was the
first time that three separate championships
have been held and the 31st year for state

Salisbury's freshman, Isabella Rusher, held
off the field to win the individual championship on Tuesday

and Country Club.
Rusher had
a three-shot lead over the field after the first day with a
74 and shot an 83 on Tuesday for a 157 total, but it was
enough to win the title by a single shot. Allea Hawkins of
Hendersonville and Emily Brooks of Pittsboro Northwood each
had 158s, with Brooks shooting a 79 on the final day.
Lily Yatawara of
Salisbury and Mary Frances Hall of Elkin were tied for

Northwood, with East Surry third at 541.

 Sade'cia
Riggs |
Inside the Ropes
at a 4A Regional
By: Sade'ica Riggs |
|
|
(Editor’s Note: I
received an email one
day from Sade’cia Riggs
who was answering the
call I had put our for
intern reporters. I had
no idea how well
Sade’cia played the game
of golf but I soon found
out. Sade’cia and her
team, West Forsyth,
finished the regular
season in third place.
Sade’cia finished the
season as No.2 in her
conference. Only
Sade’cia and Katie Green
from West Forsyth
secured a berth in the
regional of which
Sade’cia won a spot at
the state playoffs in
Pinehurst. When she had
finished at the regional
I asked Sade’cia to put
to paper her thoughts
and feeling on her day
at the regional.)
I woke up Tuesday
morning from a great
night's sleep feeling
very energetic and
enthusiastic about
playing in the 2011 4A
Regional tournament. As
I ate breakfast with my
parents we talked
about how I've
accomplished nearly all
of my goals for this
season. I have been
working hard all year
long to improve my skill
level and scoring in
order to play some good
golf. I finished in
second place in the
Central Piedmont
Conference this season
with an average of 42,
which is a big
improvement from my
ninth place finish with
a 46 average from last
year. After my good
breakfast I had a
chance to converse with
a few of the other State
qualifiers at the hotel
before we made our way
to the beautiful layout
of Pine Island Country
Club.
While driving over to
the course I sat in the
back seat contemplating
my 18 holes of
competition, I felt
butterflies in my
stomach but I was also
confident in my
abilities. When I
arrived at the driving
range I went through my
stretching routine for a
few minutes to get
warmed up for the fun
yet competitive day I
would be having.
After hitting about
40-50 range balls, I
headed over to the
putting green for about
15 minutes to do some
putting drills and to
get a feel of the speed
of the faster than usual
greens. After I was
satisfied with my
putting, I headed over
to the first tee which
was about 12 minutes
before my tee time to
meet and greet my
playing partners and to
get an overview of
the rules.
When I was introduced to
tee off I received a
round of applause and
proceeded to hit a
straight drive right
down the middle of the
fairway but
unfortunately I made a
poor club selection on

CHARLOTTE,

West 4A regional – The 8AM tee times were pushed
back till 9AM making for a very long day. The
consolation was that you could not ask for a better
playing field than Pine Island CC. As the players
got off the sun began to melt away the coolness of
the morning making for a very fine day to be playing
golf.
The 4A West
Region is sprinkled with some of the highest ranked
junior golfers in the sate. In attendance after
missing most of her school matches do to a pinched
nerve was the number two best junior girl golfer in
the state Victoria Allred who plays for Reagan
High.
Allyson
Markiewicz, ranked No.6 plays for Ardrey Kell;
Hannah Carver, ranked 14th, a Reagan
Raider; Emily Stinson, ranked 23rd, plays
for Ardrey Kell; Logan Garman, ranked 34th,
plays for Butler. With this much talent on hand you
can expect some good golf and low scoring.
Allred and
Markiewicz were in the first flights to the scorer’s
table and set the early bar with a pair of matching
76’s. In the next group came Craver with a 78 and
the young freshman Phnom from Alexander Central,
Abby Hartsell with her first ever regional entry
with an 82, Stinson also in that group recorded a
round of 81. From there on out the scoring which was
expected to be lower began to escalate and the cut
line was headed into the ninety’s.

The winning
team of the West 4A Regional was the Raider Nation
of Reagan High in Pfafftown, NC. However, it was no
cake walk to the finish line. The Ardrey Kell
Knight’s put a very worthy battle but fell one shot
short of a tie with the Raiders. Reagan was led by
Allred and Kell was led by Markiewicz who won the
medalist honors in a one hole sudden death playoff
with Allred.
The third
place team to claim their ticket to the state was
the Cougars from Alexander Central in Taylorsville,
NC. The Cougars were led by Abbey Hartsell.
The fourth
team to get a reserved seat at the state was the
Providence Panthers led by Michelle Fogarty.
The state 4A

Salisbury Wins Girls
1/2A Central Regional
Katie Nance claims
medalist honor |

HINA GROVE, NC –
October 24, 2011 – Girls
1/2A Central Regional –
Warrior Golf Club –
The Salisbury Hornets
are state playoff bound
after claiming their
first place ticket to
the big shindig in
Pinehurst next weekend.
The Hornets were led by
the very talented
Isabella Rusher a top 30
ranked junior girl
golfer in the state.
Rusher’s 76 were two
strokes shy of winning
her the medalist honors.
The Medalist honors went
to Katie Nance from East
Davidson for her round
of 74, two over par.
Rusher’s teammates
Madeline Hoskins and
Lily Yatawara, both
highly ranked NC junior
golfers fired rounds of
85 and 87 respectfully
to fill out the team
total of 248 to win the
regional title.
The second place team,
East Surry was led by
Sarah Johnson with a
round of 82. Ashley
Jessup and Madison Moore
contributed rounds of 90
and 91 for East Surry’s
team total of 263.
Winning the third of
four berths for the
state playoffs was
Elkin. Elkin was led by
Mary Frances Hall who
carded an 83. The team
total of 280 was filled
in with the aid of
Annika Winebarger’s 88
and Laura Burgess’s 109.
Katie Nance’s 74 helped
East Davidson’s ticket
to the state playoffs
get punched for the
fourth and last berth
awarded at the Warrior.
Katie McAdam’s 98 and
Samantha Smith’s120 gave
East Davidson a team
total of 292.
Under normal
circumstances only the
four lowest scoring
teams will earn berths
in the state playoff
however the rules call
for an exception
exception and that is
when a team does not
shoot one of the four
lowest rounds at the
regional but the team
members shoot low enough
to qualify for three of
the fourteen individual
spots then they can play
at the state as a team
rather than as three
individuals. North Surry
will now go to the state
as the fourth team from
this Central region.
North Surry was led by
Kasie Tolbert with a
round of 95. Gatlin
Hiatt shot a 101 and
Sarah Holleman shot a
102 for a team total of
298.
The total number of
individuals playing in
the state from this
regional will be only 11
as the state will only
allow 26 players from
each regional made up of
four three member teams
and 14 individuals.
Eastern Randolph’s Tessa
Davis led the list of
the 14 individuals that
won spots at the state
to play as individuals.
Davis shot the fifth
best score at the
Warrior which was an 84.
All of the 1/2A teams
will gather at Long Leaf
in Southern Pines next
Monday for a two day, 36
hole stroke play to
determine who is the
best team in North
Carolina in this
classification. This
will be the first time
that the 1/2A teams will
play without the 3A
classification as they
have been split off and
will have their own
state playoff at Fox
Fire.

The Central Peidmont Conference is ready
and geared up for the 4A Regional being
played this Tuesday at Pine Island
Country Club in Charlotte, NC. This 2011
season the number one seed of the CPC,
Reagan Raiders, has five players who
have qualified to the Regional. Two of
those players are Victoria Allred and
Hannah Craver who are both ranked in the
top 15 of the TYGA State
Ranking. Also on Reagan's team is the
much improved and
competitive Chloe Sizemore with a
scoring average of 43. Sizemore is very
proud of rebounding from her first
conference match to finishing third
place in the conference.
The second place team in the CPC is RJ
Reynolds who also have five players
going to the Regional. RJ Reynolds'
Hannah
Carver
two
most valuable players would be
Senior Madison Clinard and Freshman
Aubrey Patti. Patti has big dreams of
the 2011 post season and future years of
high school golf. Both Clinard and Patti
had a good scoring average of 44 this
season.
West Forsyth's Katie Green and Sade'cia
Riggs who came in third place this
season also made it to the Regional.
Both Green and Riggs improved their
averages from last season by 3 and 4
strokes respectively. Green has a 44 and
Riggs led the team with a 42 average.
Both Titans have
played quite a few golf tournaments over
the summer along with having a few golf
lessons along the way.
The Mt. Tabor's Sophomore Sarah Tong
improved her golf game from last year to
be the only Spartan to qualify for this
year's Regional. Many players of the CPC
enjoy the company and character of Tong
as she is always able to put a smile on
her face.
North Davidson finished in fifth place
of the CPC with two qualifiers for the
Regional, Seniors Lindsey Ball and Joy
Furlipa.
Davie County's new golf coach is
rebuilding the team after losing four
seniors from last year. Coach Walwik is
determined to build a new and improved
team to compete for years to come. Back to the top.......

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- October 17, 2011 - Winston Lake Golf
Course- October 17, 2011- On a marvelous Carolina afternoon the
Central Peidmont Conference had their Conference Championship at
the historic Winston Lake GC, locally known as "The Lake", hosted
by the RJ Reynolds Demons.
The medalist of the day was the pleasant and talented Victoria
Allred recently returning from an injury with an astounding round
of one under par 36. Allred enjoyed the two rounds that she played
this season and has some high expectations for this and next
year's golf season. In a close second place was the high spirited
and aggressive Hannah Craver with another great
round of 2 over par 39. Craver enjoyed her round and had many really
great up and downs.
The CPC Player
of the Year went to Hannah Craver with a 37 average. Craver said she
has worked very hard on her golf game to get to the level she is at
now but she still knows she has room for improvement. In second
place of the CPC is Sade'cia Riggs with an average of 42. Riggs
hopes to play well at the 4A Regional and even better in the State
Championship.
In third place of this
conference championship is the long hitting and
energetic Chloe Sizemore with an average of 43. Sizemore said she
and her team has worked really hard this season with practicing
everyday and having a good mindset going into each matched they
played. Sizemore feels all of their hard work has finally paid
off this season with a team record of 39-0. In fourth place was
the rising star Aubrey Patti, the Freshman from RJ Reynolds scored
an average of 44. Patti hopes to play really well at the Regional
and be able to make it to the 4A State Championship. In fifth place
is the Mother-hen of West Forsyth Katie Green who made it to
the State Championship as a Sophomore last year. The 4A Regional
will be held at Pine Island Country Club on October 25, 2011 where
everyone will come out to compete at their very best to make it
the 4A State Championship.<>Back to the top....... |

Lily Crane Cards a
69 at Blair Park |
|
|
HIGH POINT,
NC – October 17, 2011 – Blair Park Golf Club –
What a way to put an exclamation point on a season.
Lily Crane did just that in her final match of the
season at Blair Park in High Point. Crane carded the
only sub 70 round reported to the CGNT this season.
Crane led her team to a fifteen stroke victory with a
round of 69 and collected her seventh straight
medalist honor.
Ragsdale’s No.2 and No.3, Joliana Lilas and Savanna
Mackie added rounds of 78 and 81 for a team total of
228.
NW Guilford
collected another runner-up title with a team total of
243. Amanda Wyrick led the
Vikings with a three over par round of 75. Sarah Choi
and Elise Wright contributed rounds of 83 and 85
respectively.
East
Forsyth filled in the third spot on the card with a
round of 313.

The Ragsdale Tigers Take
Home the Piedmont Triad 4A Pennant |
|
|
KERNERSVILLE, NC – October
13, 2011 – Maple Leaf Golf Club – The Piedmont Triad 4A
Conference held its last conference match at Maple Leaf Golf
Club in Kernersville, NC on Thursday. The onus was on the
backs of the Vikings of NW Guilford as they were down
eighteen strokes going into this final match. An
insurmountable number for sure but there is always the
hope.
Amanda Wyrick, the lead
Viking, looks like she came in with the purpose of an upset.
Wyrick came into this match with the memory of her second
worse round of the season in her last outing. Pushing all of
that aside Wyrick went toe to toe with the lead Tigress from
Ragsdale, Lily Crane. Both Crane and Wyrick posted identical
rounds of 38 to share the medalist honors in this last match
of the regular season. But the sharing didn’t stop there.
The Viking’s number two and
the Tiger’s number two fought it out just like their leaders
did and when the match was up both Savanna Mackie from
Ragsdale and Maddie Haley from NW Guilford carded a pair of
40’s. With two tied matches that means the match decision
would fall on the shoulders of the team’s number threes.
Carrying that responsibility
can tighten the muscles creating bad strokes and costing
strokes however it appears that the number three on both
teams stood up well
under that responsibility.
Tigress Joliana Lilas,
Ragsdale’s number three, played like this was the match to
win the conference championship with. Lilas, whose stroke
average is just under 46 posted her second best round of the
season with a 43 to make the team total 121, a better than
average team score.
These kids played their
hearts out in this match. Needing to beat or match a 43 the
Vikings had Sarah Choi whose stroke average is 42.50 and
then two others whose stroke average was 45 and above.
Elise Wright was one of those
last two and like Ragsdale’s Lilas Wright stepped up to the
plate and hit a home run. She too had carded a 43, her third
43 of the season to tie Lilas and make the team total 121
and the match all square. Choi also came in with a 43 for
some insurance.
The identical score of 121
was the second best team total for both of these teams this
season. It is the perfect way to end a hard fought battle
for the conference crown. With this tie it brings the total
of tied matches by these two teams to three for this season.
The third place finish
belongs to East Forsyth led by Alexis Gregory.

Ragsdale Wins at Jamestown
Park |
|
|
JAMESTOWN, NC – October 10, 2011 – Jamestown Park –
Ragsdale pulled even further away from their Piedmont Triad
4A Conference nemeses, NW Guilford. NW needed this win but
they were not able to swing it. As the song says, “The
party’s over, its time to call it a night.”
Lily
Crane continued her complete domination of the Piedmont
Triad Conference with a great round of 37 essentially giving
her the individual conference championship. Crane’s running
mate, Savannah Mackie had a hiccup at Jamestown with a round
of 42, four more strokes than her last two matches. Joliana
Lilas came in as Ragsdale’s No.3 at Jamestown with a round
of 47 giving the team a total of 126.
NW Guilford’s Amanda Wyrick, their No.1 came in six strokes
higher than her average for the last two matches, but it was
not enough to cover the 8 stroke deficit needed to tie the
match.
Sarah Choi excited everyone last week with her lowest round
of the season, a 37 and hoped that she had made the turn in
these last couple of weeks before the regional and state.
Not to be. Choi came in at Jamestown with a 45. Add to
Wyrick’s 43 and Choi’s 45 a 46 brought in by Emma Lee for a
team total of 134.
Third place was again awared to the East Forsyth team with a
score of 167.

Brook Country Club-
October 10, 2011-
On a beautiful afternoon
the Central Piedmont
Conference had their
sixth and final regular
season match hosted by
the Reagan Raiders at
Pine Brook Country Club.
The
medalist of the day was
the 14th ranked player
in the state Hannah
Craver with a one over
par round of 37. Craver,
as usual, was bombing
her drives and sticking
her approach shots close
to the pin.
The CPC had the pleasure
of
welcoming back the
energetic and talented
Victoria Allred playing
in her first conference
match of this season.
Allred had been
sidelined with an
injury. Allred finished
her round in second
place with a great round
of 39. Allred is ranked
as the 3rd
best junior girl golfer
in the state.
Reagan's Chloe Sizemore
and Mt. Tabor's Sarah
Tong finished tied
for third place with a
good round of 41.
Sizemore felt that she
was hitting some really
good drives and woods
but she felt she left a
few strokes out on the
golf course. Tong
enjoyed her best round
of the season and hopes
to score similar in the
Central Piedmont
Conference Championship.
 Chloe
Sizemore |
 Sarah
Tong |

Katie Green
|
In 5th place was West
Forsyth’s Sade'cia Riggs
who shot her season long
average of 42. In 6th
place out of the 28
players was West
Forsyth’s Katie Green
with a good round of 43.
Green was happy with her
round but she knows that
she had a few putting
problems and hopes to putt better in the post
season matches.
Next week on October
17th is the Central
Piedmont Conference
Championship which will be held at Winston

Page High
School Wins at Bryan Park |
|
|
GREENSBORO, NC
– October 10, 2011 – Bryan Park Golf Club – The
Metro 4A Conference met for their next to last
conference match before the regional on the 24th.
This match was an 18 hole match as will be their
last one. Page entered this match 55 strokes ahead
of Grimsley and extended that lead even further
after this match.
Grimsley’s
Shannon Paylor won her fourth medalist honors at
this match with a three over par 75. Paylor has a
pretty good grip on being named the conference
champion based on stroke average of 40.60 before
this match.
Her
competition, Erica Gallerani of Page, sat at 1.60
behind Paylor before this match and in this match
Gallerani carded a nine over par 81 essentially closing the
door on her chances of catching Paylor.
The Page
Pirates continued their winning ways due to the
continued good play of their one two punch, the
Gallerani twins. With aide of their No.3, AB
Osteen’s 90, the Pirates won their sixth consecutive
match of this season in conference play.
Paylor and
Shelby Armentrout shot a 75 and 88 respectively to
come within two strokes of the Gallerani twins. The
real battle of this match was between the team’s
number three's. Grimsley’s No.3, Beth Cauble, gave
it her all managing a round four strokes lower than
her stroke average but was just not enough for the
win.
The Metro 4A
Conference has one more match before their regional
play that will be contested in Pinehurst on their
Centennial Course #8 on Monday October 24th,
2011.<>

CLEMMONS, NC -
October 9, 2011 - Salem
Glen Country Club -
The Triad Youth Golf
Foundation West League
had their last home
match of their regular
season at the beautiful
layout of Salem Glen
Country Club. The
medalist
of
the day was the
consistent 12 year old
Matthew Guo with a round
of 43 by playing from
the white tees. Guo won
or tied every match he
played during the
regular season. Guo awaits
and welcomes the
challenge from the top
players of the Futures
League East competition
at Bryan Park.
Tied
for second place was the
youngest player in the
West League, the
joyful and skill
improving 11 year old
from Davie County
Christopher Carr, with a
round of 45, was pleased
with his round and hopes
to play the same or
better next week at
Bryan Park in
Greensboro.
West Forsyth Titan's
number one player
Sade'cia Riggs, as
usual, knew she could
have played better if it
wasn't for a few
miss-hits and lazy
putts, otherwise she was
content with her ball
striking.
The
talented and long
hitting Seth Lomison
came in a close third
place with a round of
46. Lomison realized
there were a few missed
par putts left out there
on the greens and he
also felt this was a
great learning
experience. In fourth
place this week was the
sportsman Ryan Lantz
with his best round of
the season a 49. Lantz
was hitting a lot of
great shots and is
excited to play at Bryan
Park next week.
Next week on October 16,
2011 is the end of the
Fall Triad Youth Golf
Foundation Futures
League where awards will
be given to the League
MVP, Most Dedicated
Player and the Most
Improved Player. Also,
during this final
week at Bryan Park, the
TYGF will decide the

Salisbury's Team is Thin and Winning! |
|
|
The Salisbury Hornets – In his own
words Coach Dale Snyder
had this to say about
his team and the on
going season, “We've
had a very good start.
Currently our record is
24 - 2, losing two
contests to Ledford and
to
Cannon
School.
We've defeated some
teams like Ledford,
Grimsley, Greensboro
Page, and Statesville to
name a few. We are only
carrying four girls on
our team this year.
We're
being led by freshman
Isabella Rusher, who
currently has a 37
average over 9 holes.
In 8 matches, she has
been at or under par
twice, and has been
under 40 in all but one
match.
Senior
Lily Yatawara is close
behind her with a 40
average over 9 holes.
Lily hit a bit of a
rough patch earlier in
the year, but has posted
3 consecutive scores
under 40.
Madeline
Hoskins is a sophomore
who we are currently
sharing with the tennis
team. When she plays
with us, she is a vital
part of our team. She
has a 43 average on 9
holes thru 6 matches
that she's played in.
She recently recorded a
38 on the front 9 of
Sapona.
Brooke
Smith is a junior that
rounds out our team.
She is currently
carrying a 47 average
and we are looking for
all four of our girls to
qualify for the state
tournament.
In the next few weeks,
we've got the Rowan
County Championship,
plus we have a rematch
with Cannon School.”
Salisbury’s location for

Ragsdale Edges NW
Guilford By One Stroke at Pine Knolls |
|
|
KERNERSVILLE,
NC – October 5, 2011 – Pine Knolls GC –
After two tied matches Ragsdale managed to win
the rubber match. Ragsdale came off of Pine
Knolls with a one stroke victory over NW
Guilford but what a match it was.
Ragsdale
led the duo of Crane and Mackie scored a state
championship round but so did NW Guilford.
Ragsdale posted a team total of 114 to NW’s team
total of 115. This is the kind of match where
every shot counts. The intensity on both sides
must have been a fever pitch.
 |
|
Lily Crane |
 |
|
Sarah Choi |
|
Crane,
Mackie and Wyrick did their regular thing-play
well. The hero of the day was in NW Guilford’s
Sarah Choi. In a match of this importance the
pressure hardly lets someone play out of their
game. Choi did just that. Choi turned in a huge
round for NW Guilford, a 37! Choi’s 37 keep the
score close through out the match. It was only
the game of Crane that turned the dial in favor
or Ragsdale.
Crane came
off of Pine Knolls with a score matching her
best round of this season, a 35. This round will
solidify her stroke average at even. This is the
time of the season when the good players are
getting into their grooves and Crane is there.
Crane will be the top dog at her regional and
the state.
Crane’s
running mate Savannah Mackie is no
slouch by any means. Mackie has been the perfect
wingman for Crane. Mackie and Crane are a great
one two punch.
Talk about
gelling at the right time. That may be happening
with Ragsdale’s No.3 and 4. Both Joliana Lilas
and Victoria Edwards looks to have began a
little gelling themselves. They both turned in
rounds of 41 at Pine Knolls. That may not sound
like much to the average reader but these two
shot rounds that was seven strokes under their
stroke average. If they continue to perform like
this the rest of the season then the Ragsdale
team will travel to the state together. |
East
Forsyth took home the third place finish led by
Alexis Gregory.

The
Pirates of Page Dominate the Metro 7 4A
Conference |
|
|
GREENSBORO,
NC – October 6, 2011 – The Metro-7 4A Conference –
The Metro conference is very busy conference
during the Spring golf season but during the girls
golf season the conference has only three of seven
schools fielding golf teams. They are the Page
Pirates, Grimsley Whirlies and the Southern Alamance
Patriots. To date the Metro has played four matches
and the Page Pirates are leading the conference with
a 129 stroke average, eleven strokes better than
second place Grimsley. The Patriots of Southern
Alamance are in third place with a 166.60 stroke
average.
|

Erica |
The Pirates
are led by the Gallerani twins, Erica and Anna who
have competed in every match this season and performed
very well. In their last match held at the Challenge
the twins share the
medalist honors with Grimsley’s Shannon Paylor. This
was Erica’s second medalist medal in a row. At her
last match at Bryan Park Erica posted a three under
par round of 33. Helping the Gallerani twins carry
the Pirate booty is AB Osteen. |

Anna |
Osteen opened
her season with back
to
back medalist honors in her first two matches. Since
the first two matches Osteen has be what all golfers
strive for, consistent play. Consistency is what the
Pirates are all about. All three of the Pirates are
within three strokes of each other and they
consistently finish in the top four of every match.
The
stalwart for Grimsley is Shannon Paylor. Paylor is
also leading the Metro 7 conference. Her excellent
play has rewarded her three times this season with
the medalist honors. She is currently ranked as the 63rd
best junior girl golfer in the state.
Grimsley’s No.2 is Shelby Armentrout while the No.3
spot switches between freshman Beth Cauble and
sophomore Jinny Lee.
Southern
Alamance is led by Megan
Patterson and Angle Clark.
Both of these golfers are
separated by
less than a stroke in their
averages. Clark’s lost a
little ground on Patterson due to their
last match. Patterson recorded
her best round of this season
in conference play which gave
her the number one spot .80
ahead of Clark. Like Grimsley,
the Patriots No.3 spot is
shared by Carroll Durham and
Leah Rudd though Durham has a
slight lead over Rudd in
strokes averages.

The following
comments are for parents of
female children who are not
playing golf. Colleges all
across America are starving
for female players. A female
golfer has a great advantage over
their male counterparts. A
high school girl who can pay
golf in the low eighties to
high seventies has a great
chance of securing
scholarships from partial to a full ride. So
parents, if your young girls
are not playing golf then I
strongly suggest you get them
involved with the game. With
the cost of college tuition
rising every year, golf will give
your children a better
opportunity to get a
scholarship than softball, soccer or basketball. – Tom

4A Battle Shaping Up
in Piedmont Triad Conference |
 |
|
GREENSBORO, NC – October 3, 2011 – Bryan Park Golf Course
- The Piedmont Triad 4A Conference met at Bryan Park for
their third meeting of quickly disappearing season. Ragsdale
and NW Guilford are battling for the top spot with Ragsdale
in lead going into today’s match.
|
|
Ragsdale is led by Lily Crane and NW is led by Amanda Wyrick.
Currently Crane is the more dominate performer of the two,
but it is the solid depth that NW has that keeps these two
teams so entangled. While Ragsdale has two fine players in
Crane and Savanna Mackie they have little or no help from
their No. two and three. Of the top ten players in the
Piedmont Triad conference NW has all of their top four
players taking positions three through five.
In the first match of the season NW hiccupped allowing
Ragsdale to win the match by nine strokes. Since that first
match these two teams have played to a dead even tie in the
two subsequent matches. All of this bodes for a very
exciting next three weeks in terms of who will win the
Piedmont Triad 4A conference.
At
Bryan Park Ragsdale and NW played to a tie at 125 all.
There was a three way tie for medalist honors, Ragsdale’s
Crane and Mackie along with NW’s Wyrick. Of the top ten
individuals at Bryan Park Ragsdale had the top two
spots and NW had spots three through five with two of
NW’s players tied in the fifth spot.
The third place team was also a tie with Glenn and East
Forsyth playing to a 161. Alexis Gregory lead East Forsyth
and Glenn was led by Tara Smith.<>

CLEMMONS, NC- October 2, 2011- Salem Glen Country

Matthew Guo with a great scoring round of 38.
Guo started out the first three holes with two
birdies and a par. Guo was having an under par
round through eight holes until the par 3
eighth hole where he found the water hazard.
He then to proceeded to end the hole with a
league regulat-ed double par.
In a close second place was the talented Seth Lomison
with a great
round of 3 over par 39. Lomison was content with his
round but did admit that he could have saved a few
strokes here and there. If Lomison didn't find the
water on the par 5 fifth hole which he bogeyed and
on the par 5 seventh hole which he double bogeyed
Lomison could've had an even par round.
In third place was Sade'cia Riggs with an above
average score of 44. Riggs was having some trouble
with striking the ball today but knew that she could
have played a bit better considering the ideal
conditions. In 4th place was the athletic and
precise 12 year old Christopher Carr with his lowest
round of league play with a 46. Carr was very proud
of his round this week and hopes to play better in
the final two weeks of the TYGF Fall season. Kaitlyn
Colemen was content to find out that she came in 5th
place this week with a 47. Colemen enjoyed her round
and hopes to have more rounds similar or
better, considering that the high school golf
matches are coming to a conclusion of their regular
season.
Next week's league play will be in stroke play
format with the following
final week being in Greensboro at Bryan Park for the
TYGF Futures Team Golf League Championship.<> |

MOCKSVILLE, NC-
September 27, 2011- Lake
Louise Country Club-
Davie County hosted
their Central Piedmont
Conference match on
Monday at Lake Louise
Country Club and once
again the Reagan Raiders
won with a team total
of 130. RJ Reynolds came
in a close second place
with a team total of
133. The course played
tougher than usual even
though the greens were
soft, along with its
thick moist rough that
was extremely
challenging to progress
your ball.
The medalist of the day
was Reagan's Hannah
Craver and RJ Reynolds'
Aubrey Patti with a 4
over par 40. This wasn't
Cravers best round but
she did manage to
execute several short
game skills and sank a
few much needed putts to
save par. On the second
hole of the day, the
short par 4
eleventh, Craver bombed
her 3 wood down the
middle of the fairway,
chipped it close and
attempted a birdie putt
but unfortunately she
did not make the putt
ending up with a routine
par.
Tied for the individual
3rd place in this
conference match were RJ
Reynolds' Madison Clinard and Reagan's
Chloe Sizemore with a 6
over par 42. Both
Clinard and Sizemore
seemed to be content
with their round though
they still feel that
they could have scored
better.
In 5th individual place
was North Davidson's
Lindsey Ball with a 7
over par 43. Ball
enjoyed her round and
her playing partners who
encouraged and applauded
her to continue an
acceptable round of
golf. The next CPC match
will be held at Winston
Lake Golf Course on
Monday October 3rd.

at Jamestown Park Crane came off the course with
a one over par round of 37, good enough for the
medalist honors. The other half of that one two
punch, Savanna Mackie was the second best golfer
at Jamestown today with a two over par round of
38.
Ragsdale’s
score of 125 was nine strokes better than the
runner-up, Northwest Guilford’s 134. Three of

CLEMMONS, NC- September

Country Club - It was a
good mild day to go out

golf but the

up to standard, mainly
due to the challenging

finish the hole out so
their total score would
go into their average
for the end of the
season. The first group

CLEMMONS, NC- September 19, 2011- Salem

Piedmont Conference at their home, Salem Glen CC today.
Monday was another beautiful day to be a
golfer as the Reagan Raiders captured another CPC match with
a team total of 123. RJ Reynolds came in a not too distant
second place with a team total of 129. The medalist of the
day was the astounding Hannah Craver, a junior from Reagan
with a one under par 35.
Craver
was striking the ball well, as usual and hitting nothing
but great shots into the green. On the fourth hole of the
day the par 4 ninth, Craver bombed her tee shot down the
middle of the fairway about 40 yards away from the green.
From there Carver chipped on and one putted for an amazing
15' birdie.
RJ Reynolds runner-up finish was attributed
to Madison Clinard who had her best round in conference play
this season, a five over par 41
West Forsyth finished in third led by
Sade’cia Riggs who placed second behind
Carver with her best round in her entire high school golfing
career, an even par round of 36. To give Riggs her best
round ever came as a result of a birdie on the 125 yard par
3 eighth hole. Riggs hit her tee shot within inches from the
cup resulting in an easy tap in putt for her birdie.
Two individual golfers tied for fourth place.
They were RJR's Aubrey Patti and Reagan's Chloe Sizemore
with a 6 over par 42. The CPC's next match will be Monday,

Lantz who went 3 and 2 over a formidable opponent,
Sade'cia Riggs.
In
this match the talented Matthew Guo two birdies
during the round, one on the par 4 third hole and
one on the par 4 sixth hole. Guo and Lantz were
bombing some great drives and landing a lot of good
approach shots onto the green to claim their
victory.

Uberseder going up against Corbin Mulheron and Davis
Rogers with Lomison and Uberseder coming out on top
with 3 up decision.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- September 14,2011- Pine Brook

medalist of the day was the outstanding junior
golfer Reagan's Hannah Craver with a one over par
37.

After her round Craver told this reporter that she
liked the way she was striking the ball and made a
great birdie on the second hole. Craver said she
enjoyed playing with her playing partners; Madison
Clinard and Sade'cia Riggs and she hopes to play
with them more often.
Tied for second place were West Forsyth's Sade'cia
Riggs and Reagan's Chloe Sizemore with 4
over par 40. Sizemore was very proud of her round
today because she was striking the ball well with
her driver and was also hitting some solid irons
into the greens.
Riggs was content with her round though she knew she
could have played a lot better. On the par five 6th
Riggs started off with a good drive but hit a bad
second shot with her 5 wood and left her third shot
in the right green side bunker finishing the hole
with a double bogey.
On the 8th the long hitting Hannah Craver blasted
her drive down the middle of the fairway which
allowed her to reach the green in two but
unfortunately her
birdie putt lipped out.
In fourth place is North Davidson's Lindsey Ball
with a 41, though she didn’t like the way she played
she did have fun with her playing partners. When I
asked Ball about what she did enjoy about her round
she told me that she didn't have any one putts or
chip-ins but she did have 5 pars.
In fifth place was a RJR Freshman with high
expectations and great potential, Aubrey Patti with
a 42. In sixth place is Katie Green from West
Forsyth who shot a six over par 43. Green did not
like the way she ended the round with a triple bogey
but before that she was having a pretty good round.
The CPC will meet again Monday September 19th at
Salem Glen Country Club.<> |
