Salisbury High School sends three of its best to play college golf

Behind every good player is a good coach and Salisbury High has one of the best in Coach Dale Snyder. Sure the kids brig their talent but a good coach knows how to cultivate both the player and their skills. Coach Snyder had the following to say about three of his brightest stars. "

I'm so proud to have these three students sign their scholarships today.  Each of these three individuals have been integral parts of the Salisbury High School golf program.

Lily Yatawara

Lily has been a huge contributor to our girls program for 4 years.  She has qualified for the state tournament all four years of her tenure here.  She has helped our girls team to be the top ranked 2A team all four years since her arrival, including two runner up finishes at the 1A/2A/3A tournaments, and most recently a huge victory at this year's 1A/2A state championship.  This year, she also finished 4th overall at the 1A/2A state tournament.

Appalachian State is getting a great player, a wonderful student, and even a better person to join their team next year.  She will be joining SHS alum Lauren Smith on the Mountaineer squad.  Lily really stepped up her game toward the end of this season to help propel us to a state championship.  She should be able to step right in and contribute beginning her freshman year.

I can't really say enough about Lily's character.  She has been a leader on and off the golf course.  Lily's leadership has helped our team achieve the greatest of great heights.  The halls of Salisbury High School will certainly miss her next year.

Alex Lee

Alex Lee is entering his senior season as a 3 year starter, being named all conference and all county all 3 years.  In his tenure so far, we have won 3 CCC titles, 2 Regional Championships and 1 Regional Runner Up, and in 3 appearances at the state championship, we have had a fourth place finish, a second place finish, and most recently, we were the 2011 State Champions.

I couldn't think of a better fit for Alex Lee than Catawba College.  Alex has really grown as a leader on our team, and has also become a great leader at our school.  Alex currently is a vital part of the SHS soccer team that is playing a semi-final match at Shelby on Wednesday night.  Alex's academic record speaks for itself.  Alex is staying in his hometown and will be following in the footsteps of his father who also played golf at Catawba College.

Alex Nianouris

Alex Nianouris is also entering his senior seaon as a 3 year started, and has also been named all conference and all county for the last 3 years.  In his junior year, Alex won the Midwest Regional Championship, while helping our team win their 2nd straight team regional title.  Alex has been a vital piece of our team for these past 3 years, and he will be very hard to replace.  His game is one of the most consistent that I have seen in my tenure here at Salisbury High School.

For Alex to be offered a scholarship at Davidson College is a tremendous honor for him.  Alex has built a tremendous reputation for himself at Salisbury High School not only as a tremendous golfer, but as an outstanding student.  Davidson College poses a huge academic challenge for Alex, but if there is anyone that I can think of that is up to the task, it is Alex Nianouris

I couldn't be prouder for all three of these young individuals.  I've been very fortunate to coach state champions over the last few years, but these are student-athletes....with the word student coming first.  State Championships are great....but if you ask any coach, any teacher, why we are here...and their answer will be to help their players get to the next level.  These three student-athletes are doing just that, and I couldn't be happier. - Click here for video interview.........
